[Blog Tour] Spotlight, Interview, & Giveaway: A Summoner's Tale by Victoria Danann

A SECRET SOCIETY, MODERN DAY KNIGHTS, AND VAMPIRE LIKE NO OTHER come together in a dimension where chance intersects romance for a once-in-a-lifetime adventure proving that true love can find you in the strangest places, even far, far from home.

Minutes ahead of inevitable assassination, Elora Laiken is forcibly transported to an alternate dimension similar, but not identical, to her own. She is stranded. Alone. Far from home. A stranger in a "strangish" land. Of course a girl could suffer worse problems than having gorgeous suitors. Perhaps more importantly, in the midst of an epidemic of vampire related abductions, can she stay alive long enough to choose between an honor debt, true love, or the breathlessness of single-minded passion?

My Familiar Stranger is a full length, stand-alone, Paranormal/Fantasy Romance novel that also sets up the foundation for the Black Swan series. It is loved by fans of paranormal romance, fantasy romance, and urban fantasy.

From New York to Ireland to Edinburgh to Siena to the Texas Hill Country to Napa Valley, a secret society, a witch, a demon, a psychic, a berserker, an ex-vampire, modern day knights, heroes, werewolves, elves and fae come together where emotions intersect. The story maps a trail from rages to hunts to epiphanies, but, in the end, proves that true love can find you in the strangest places, when you're least expecting it, even when you're far, far from home.

He was left behind when Elora Laiken made her choice. Now he’s had it with love, but a transplanted witch who happens to be the world’s best tracker hopes she can change his mind.

The Witch’s Dream  begins with B Team on temporary assignment to Black Swan headquarters in Edinburgh where they are supposed to fill in for stretched-thin resources and assist with a werewolf issue. They’ve been given permission to stop in Ireland for a few days and celebrate a handfasting at the palace in Derry.

When they reach Edinburgh, the afterglow of an elftale wedding quickly turns all business. A missing person report turns into a demon abduction. A simple werewolf sanction becomes a diplomatic issue requiring the one thing Elora is no longer willing to give - finesse.

Welcome to Phantasmic Reads, Victoria!  I'm so glad you could stop by and answer some questions today!
Tell us a bit about yourself (something that's not in your bio):

I love to play bridge. It's a dying art, but keeps me sharp.

You say that you play Classic Rock. What instrument(s) do you play?
I'm the utility player which means I play keys, rhythm guitar, and sing backup vocals with some leads (when a female voice is needed). I LOVE the position of utility player because it's the only position in the band that's truly diverse.

What are your top three favorite songs from the genre?
1. "Still of the Night" - White Snake (also the music for A Summoner's Tale  BOOK TRAILER)
2. "Achilles Last Stand" - Led Zeppelin (I get to sing leads AND play guitar on this one.)
3. "Got Me Under Pressure" - ZZ Top. (It's not hard to play, but it's SO fun and always gets a crowd going.)

Do you have an interesting writing quirk? What is it?
The closest thing to a quirk is that I need quiet. I have a sensory overload - descended from the member of the tribe who saw/heard/noticed every tiny change in environment.

Where and when do you prefer to do your writing?
I have a second story office that looks out at tree tops. Although I can write anywhere it's quiet, it's comfortable to be at home.

Do you have any pet peeves? If so, what are they?
I have too many pet peeves. Here are a few. 1. People who wait until all their groceries are bagged and then decide they're going to write an old-fashioned paper check. 2. People who talk in movies. 3. Mean girls behavior. 4. Undereducated dog owners.

What's your guilty pleasure?
Movies that some people might consider really awful. For instance, "Alien from L.A." and "Six String Samurai."

What do you like to do when you're not writing or playing music?
Since I also run businesses and manage a popular R&B/Party Band, I work seven days a week. Writing is my recreation.

Do you have any unique talents or hobbies?
Nobody has a unique talent. As far as unique hobbies, it's fairly different for a woman, any women much less one my age, to play in a rock band full of young, beautiful males.

Do you prefer ebooks, paperbacks or hardcover? Why?
I got the first generation Kindle (before Oprah found out about it) and have never looked back. I used to go on vacation with a backpack full of books. Now I can carry hundreds in a device that weighs less than a pound and can fit in my purse.

What are you currently reading, or what did you recently finish?
Sinners on Tour series by Olivia Cunning.

Are you a person who makes their bed in the morning, or do you not see much point?
Every damn day. And I don't see the point except that it may help bring order to chaos.

What are three things you never leave the house without?
Driver's license. Money. Chapstick.

Is anything in your book based on real life experiences or purely all imagination?
We are all the sum total of our experience. There are some based-on real life experiences sprinkled here and there when it serves the story. All the travel destinations are based on my own recollections.

Who is your favorite character from your book and why?
Rammel Hawking. I can't resist a beautiful, pointy eared, death-by-sex-appeal Irishman, who is also a one-woman elf, and a talented musician. Add his tireless sense of humor and I'm completely in love.

How about your least favorite character? What makes them less appealing to you?
My least favorite character was Stalkson Grey from The Witch's Dream,  but that's about to change.

Which character speaks the loudest, to you? Do any of them clamor to be heard over the others?
Rammel caused a rewrite of the entire first book.

What are some of your favorite books? Do you still have much time to read?
I read on the way to sleep. My favorite books are Memnoch the Devil - Anne Rice, Good Omens - Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, Christine - Stephen King, and A Hunger Like No Other - Kresley Cole.

If a fairy godmother told you could be put into the world of your favorite book for 24 hours, which book would you pick and why?
I would pick my own as yet unwritten autobiography so that I could manipulate some do-overs while there.

If you could have dinner with any three authors, who would you choose and why?
Stephen King made me love modern fiction.
Kresley Cole made me love paranormal romance.
Gloria Steinem convinced me that feminism is worth battling it out even in your own house.

How do you get past writer’s block or distractions like the internet?
When it's time for me to descend into the blood fever of serious writing, I have to make myself stay away from social media.

Favorite book from childhood?
Arabian Nights

Do you ever write in your PJ’s?
Nope. Don't own any.

Do you have any pets?
German Shepherd. Mostly black. A smaller, female version of the dog featured in my series.

Name a place you'd love to visit someday?
I'm pretty much traveled out. I'd like to do the Up Helly Aa Viking Fire Festival in the Shetland Islands, but it's in January. Brrrr.

Do you have any advice to give to aspiring writers?
Absolutely. Never take a class in "creative writing". They are much more likely to kill your creativity than to inspire it. (See the scene on writing a poem in the movie, "Dead Poets Society", Robin Williams.)

Is there anything that you would like to say to your readers and fans?
Thank you. My Familiar Stranger  broke all kinds of records for a first book by an unknown author. Thank you for taking a chance with your reading time even though the blurb makes it sound like it's probably juvenile or stupid or both. My first book being nominated for Best Paranormal Romance of 2012 by the Reviewers' Choice Awards was the thrill of a lifetime.

Have you ever gone out in public with your shirt on backwards, or your slippers on, and when realizing it, just said screw it?
Can't say that I have.

Speed Round:

The Twitter version - tell us about your book in 140 characters or less: Ex-vampire seeks love with demologist who turns into the Pied Piper while elf gives birth in a wolf den.

Pen or pencil? Word processor.
Milk, white, or dark chocolate? Dark.
Dogs or cats? Dog.
Pie or cake? Yes.
Plotter or pantser? Plot until pants.
Coffee or tea? Are scones involved?
Favorite Muppet? Kermy.
