Waiting on Wednesday #7 - 12th of Never by James Patterson

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill over at Breaking the Spine that has us show off books we just can't wait for!

My WoW this week is the next installment in the Women's Murder Club series - 12th of Never  by James Patterson.
Current release date:  April 29, 2013

It's finally time! Detective Lindsay Boxer is in labor--while two killers are on the loose.

Lindsay Boxer's beautiful baby is born! But after only a week at home with her new daughter, Lindsay is forced to return to work to face two of the biggest cases of her career.

A rising star football player for the San Francisco 49ers is the prime suspect in a grisly murder. At the same time, Lindsay is confronted with the strangest story she's ever heard: An eccentric English professor has been having vivid nightmares about a violent murder and he's convinced is real. Lindsay doesn't believe him, but then a shooting is called in-and it fits the professor's description to the last detail.

Lindsay doesn't have much time to stop a terrifying future from unfolding. But all the crimes in the world seem like nothing when Lindsay is suddenly faced with the possibility of the most devastating loss of her life.

Absolutely, positively one of my favorite mystery series, not to mention a favorite author!

What are you waiting on this week?

Waiting on Wednesday #6 - Carniepunk (Hell on Earth)

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill over at Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we desperately want NOW!

Current release date:  July 23, 2013

From Goodreads:

A star-studded urban fantasy anthology featuring bestselling authors Rachel Caine, Rob Thurman, Seanan McGuire, Jennifer Estep, and Kevin Hearne, whose stories explore the creepy, mysterious, and, yes, sometimes magical world of traveling carnivals.
The traveling carnival is a leftover of a bygone era, a curiosity lurking on the outskirts of town. It is a place of contradictions—the bright lights mask the peeling paint; a carnie in greasy overalls slinks away from the direction of the Barker’s seductive call. It is a place of illusion—is that woman’s beard real? How can she live locked in that watery box?

And while many are tricked by sleight of hand, there are hints of something truly magical going on. One must remain alert and learn quickly the unwritten rules of this dark show. To beat the carnival, one had better have either a whole lot of luck or a whole lot of guns—or maybe some magic of one’s own.

Featuring stories grotesque and comical, outrageous and action-packed,Carniepunk is the first anthology to channel the energy and attitude of urban fantasy into the bizarre world of creaking machinery, twisted myths, and vivid new magic.
There are so many awesome authors in this anthology:
  • Rachel Caine
  • Jennifer Estep
  • Seanan McGuire
  • Rob Thurman
  • Kevin Hearne
  • Delilah Dawson
  • Kelly Gay
  • Mark Henry
  • Hillary Jacques
  • Jackie Kessler
  • Kelly Meding
  • Allison Pang
  • Nicole Peeler
  • Jaye Wells
This will be one super-spectacular collection of stories. I can't wait! So, what are you  waiting on?

Waiting on Wednesday #5: Hunted by Kevin Hearne

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill over at Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we desperately want NOW!

A couple weeks ago, I finally caught up on the Iron Druid Chronicles  by Kevin Hearne.  Now I have to wait for Hunted  to see what happens next!

Current release date:  June 25, 2013

From Goodreads:

For a two-thousand-year-old Druid, Atticus O’Sullivan is a pretty fast runner. Good thing, because he’s being chased by not one but two goddesses of the hunt—Artemis and Diana—for messing with one of their own. Dodging their slings and arrows, Atticus, Granuaile, and his wolfhound Oberon are making a mad dash across modern-day Europe to seek help from a friend of the Tuatha Dé Danann. His usual magical option of shifting planes is blocked, so instead of playing hide-and-seek, the game plan is . . . run like hell.
Crashing the pantheon marathon is the Norse god Loki. Killing Atticus is the only loose end he needs to tie up before unleashing Ragnarok—AKA the Apocalypse. Atticus and Granuaile have to outfox the Olympians and contain the god of mischief if they want to go on living—and still have a world to live in.

If you haven't read the series, this is the perfect time to catch up while waiting for Hunted.   Start with Hounded  to get all the history of the Iron Druid Chronicles.  :)

What's your waiting on pick of the week?

Waiting on Wednesday #4 - Calculated In Death

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill over at Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we just can't wait for.

With this week's pick, I don't have too long to wait.  Calculated In Death  hits the shelves before the end of February!  It looks like I need to get reading, since both last week's pick and this week's pick release on the same day!

Current release date:  February 26, 2013

From Goodreads:
On Manhattan's Upper East Side a woman lies dead at the bottom of the stairs, stripped of all her valuables. Most cops might call it a mugging gone wrong, but Lieutenant Eve Dallas knows better.

A well-off accountant and a beloved wife and mother, Marta Dickenson doesn't seem the type to be on anyone's hit list. But when Eve and her partner, Peabody, find blood inside the building, the lieutenant knows Marta's murder was the work of a killer who's trained, but not professional or smart enough to remove all the evidence.

But when someone steals the files out of Marta's office, Eve must immerse herself in her billionaire husband Roarke's world of big business to figure out who's cruel and callous enough to hire a hit on an innocent woman. And as the killer's violent streak begins to escalate, Eve knows she has to draw him out, even if it means using herself as bait. . . .

An absolute must-read-soon for me, since it's part of one of the best series I've ever read.

Waiting on Wednesday #3 - Mountain Echoes

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill over at Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Even though I've chosen Mountain Echoes  by C.E. Murphy, I won't be able to read it right away since I'm one book behind in the series.  :(  Shame on me.

Current release date:  February 26, 2013
From Goodreads:
You can never go home again.

Joanne Walker has survived an encounter with the Master at great personal cost, but now her father is missing - stolen from the timeline. She must finally return to North Carolina to find him - and to meet Aidan, the son she left behind long ago.

That would be enough for any shaman to face, but Joanne's beloved Appalachians are being torn apart by an evil reaching forward from the distant past. Anything that gets in its way becomes tainted - or worse.

And Aidan has gotten in the way.

Only by calling on every aspect of her shamanic powers can Joanne pull the past apart and weave a better future. It will take everything she has - and more.

Unless she can turn back time...

I really need to read Raven Calls  soon!  So what's your WoW of the week?

WoW #2 - Fifth Grave Past the Light

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill over at Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week, I'm eagerly awaiting book five in the Charley Davidson series, Fifth Grave Past the Light  by Darynda Jones.
Current release date:  July 5, 2013
From Goodreads:   Charley Davidson may not look like your everyday, run-of-the-mill grim reaper, but she has vowed to reap grimness wherever she goes despite this unfortunate fact. Sadly, she gets sidetracked when the sexy, sultry son of Satan, Reyes Farrow, moves in next door. As he is the main suspect in her arson case, she has vowed to stay away from him until she can find out the truth.  However, when dead women start appearing in her apartment - lost, confused and terrified beyond reason - Charley has no choice but to ask for Reyes's help, especially when it becomes apparent that her own sister Gemma is the serial killer's next target. With his ability to observe incorporeally, surely he can find out who's responsible. And even if he can't, he is the one man alive who could protect Gemma no matter who or what came at her. But he wants something in return: Charley. All of her - body and soul. And to keep her sister safe, it is a price she might be willing to pay...

When I finished Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet,  I sent this tweet, and received a reply from Darynda Jones:

Charley is loads of fun, and having Charley and Reyes living so close to each other should be quite interesting as well.  :)

Waiting on Wednesday #1 - Frost Burned

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill over at Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week, my can't wait for book is Frost Burned by Patricia Briggs.

Current release date:  March 5, 2013
From Goodreads:   Shapeshifter Mercy Thompson's life is calming down, at least enough that she can focus on mundane matters like Black Friday sales. But on her return, Mercy is unable to contact her mate, Alpha Adam Hauptman, or the other members of their pack. All she knows is that Adam is angry and in pain. With the werewolves fighting a political battle to gain acceptance from the public, Mercy fears Adam's disappearance may be related - and that he and the pack are in serious danger. Outclassed and on her own, Mercy may be forced to seek assistance from the most unlikely of allies: the vampire seethe.

Mercy has been a favorite character of mine ever since this series debuted in 2006. I can't wait to see what kind of trouble she gets into this time around!
