Cover Reveal: Follow the White Rabbit by Kellie Sheridan

I'm pleased to be part of the cover reveal for Follow the White Rabbit  by Kellie Sheridan!

Expected publication: May 21, 2013
Cover designed by Kellie Sheridan

Follow the White Rabbit by Kellie Sheridan
Series: Beautiful Madness, #1
Publication date: May 21, 2013
Genre: YA Fantasy

For centuries, Wonderland thrived as the domain of beautiful bedlam and unapologetic madness. It was a place like no other. All it took was one girl slipping in through the cracks of the universe to start chaos spiraling toward order. In the 150 years since Alice’s visit, the realm has become tainted—almost normal. Rabbits in waistcoats and playing card minions are little more than creatures of myth, and Wonderland is literally falling to pieces.

For Gwen, Rose, and Lucky, Wonderland is home, and yet they know little of its former glory. When the Alice prophecy resurfaces, they’ll have one chance to use Wonderland’s own legends to bring a little mayhem back into their reality. For she who controls Alice controls the fate of Wonderland.

[Blog Tour] Review and Giveaway - Blood and Snow by Rachelle Workman

Click on the banner for the complete tour schedule!

Blood and Snow: The Complete Set by RaShelle Workman
Publication date: 2013
Genre: YA Paranormal

Synopsis:
Every thousand years the Vampire Queen selects a new body, always the fairest in the land, and this time she's chosen Snow White.

Snow isn't an ordinary girl. She doesn't know that yet.

When Snow gets bitten by a Hunter, her life is thrown into a whirlwind of change where instead of worrying about what to eat, she has to fight not to drink the blood of fellow high school students. She becomes a revenant - not quite human, not quite vampire.

With the help of an eccentric old Professor, his seven adoptive sons, and her best friend, Snow learns to control her blood craving. Sort of. She drinks a bloodlust tea, but she'd rather drink from her Hunter.

Or, a human.

She also discovers a whole other realm, one filled with fairies, dragons, and magic. And not only does the Vampire Queen want her, but there's a pendant called the Seal of Gabriel created for Snow by the Vampire Queen's twin sister. And Snow's supposed to use it to restore balance to all magical creatures. Including vampires.

RaShelle Workman lives on a mountain with her husband, three children, and three dogs. From her back porch she can see the city lights and imagine... She's the bestselling author of the Dead Roses series (Sleeping Roses is being translated into Turkish, and will be available in print wherever Turkish books are sold in 2014), the Immortal Essence series, and the Blood and Snow series.

Where to find RaShelle:

While poking around on Amazon several months ago, I saw Blood Soaked Promises, episode four of this series. At the time, I thought it sounded interesting, but I am not a big fan of the 'episodic' novels - at least not until the series is complete. When Blood and Snow: The Complete Set  was released, I figured the time to read it had arrived.

RaShelle Workman has taken the Snow White fairy tale and turned it on it's ear. Blood and Snow is full of familiar (and not so familiar) fairy tale characters.

I really enjoyed Blood and Snow. The worldbuilding was well done, and I became fond of most of the characters. I say most because honestly - I would have no trouble smacking Snow's parents upside their heads. They were completely useless in my mind. Snow was much better off without them around.

Professor Pops and his seven sons were fun most of the time, but when the situation called for it, they could be serious and responsible. I was trying to decide if I have a favorite son, but I can't pick. I think it would depend where in the story I was. The cast of characters was rounded out by Snow's best (female) friend Cindy, Snow's Hunter, and Kenmei. Oh - and Abernathy. Dragons seriously rock.

I loved the way the story unfolded. Seal of Gabriel and Telltale Kisses were two of my favorite volumes. I'm not saying I didn't enjoy the others, because I most definitely did. Those were ones that helped some things click for me, and RaShelle Workman did a phenomenal job with those two especially.

The bottom line here is that if you're into vampires, or fairy tales, or both, you should read Blood and Snow: The Complete Set.  Personally, I wouldn't read it any other way because the endings of each episode made me super happy I had the whole thing handy! Oh - I have a note in my Kindle that says "I love Snow's inner voice". There were plenty of moments that had me chuckling.

Review and Giveaway - Echo by Alicia Wright Brewster

Click the banner for the full tour schedule

Echo by Alicia Wright Brewster
Publication: April 25th 2013
by Dragonfairy Press
Genre: YA Sci-Fi

The countdown clock reads ten days until the end of the world. The citizens are organized. Everyone's been notified and assigned a duty. The problem is . . . no one knows for sure how it will end.

Energy-hungry Mages are the most likely culprit. They travel toward a single location from every corner of the continent. Fueled by the two suns, each Mage holds the power of an element: air, earth, fire, metal, water, or ether. They harness their powers to draw energy from the most readily available resource: humans.

Ashara has been assigned to the Ethereal task force, made up of human ether manipulators and directed by Loken, a young man with whom she has a complicated past. Loken and Ashara bond over a common goal: to stop the Mages from occupying their home and gaining more energy than they can contain. But soon, they begin to suspect that the future of the world may depend on Ashara's death.

Alicia Wright Brewster is a mild-mannered lady of average height and above average paranormal obsession. By day, she works in an office. At night she is an author, an electronics junkie, and a secret superhero.

In her virtually non-existent free time, she loves to read, watch movies, and eat food. She is particularly fond of the food-eating and makes a point to perform this task at least three times per day, usually more.

Let me start with...I love this cover. Absolutely love this cover. Gorgeous. Perfect. Love it. I would have bought this book based on the cover and blurb alone. And I would not have regretted it.

10:04:21. Ten days, four hours, twenty-one minutes until the end of all things we knew - or so the vision said.  Echo  starts off with a bang and does not stop. The reader immediately finds out that four rewinds have already taken place, making this the fifth timeline. Ashara Vinn is summoned to the Council, where she's assigned to the Ethereal task force.

Ashara is understandably confused, since she's never shown any talent. But being a good citizen, she answers the summons. We're introduced to her best friend Rey, who is a Breather - an air manipulator. There are other practitioners we meet throughout the story, some of whom I would gladly have slapped.

When Asha reaches the Council, she comes face-to-face with Loken, someone she hasn't seen in a while and the person who will lead her task force. Loken and Ashara have history which makes for some fun interaction in stressful times.

The elders are the only ones who retain memories from previous timelines, so they are the people who dictate the next course of action for the practitioners. During previous timelines, new information became known, which changes the direction they will take in this fifth timeline.

I found Ashara to be a strong-willed, outspoken, and thoughtful heroine. As Echo  progresses, her history with Loken is revealed, along with a few other things from her past that had me feeling for this young woman.

While I realized the direction some plot threads were headed, there were several others that smacked me upside the head. Not because they didn't fit, but because I really had not seen them coming. At all.

Ms. Brewster did an amazing job telling this story. The writing is polished and clean. The pacing is tight, which encourages rapid page-turning. Before I knew it, I was being blown away by another of those little plot twists I mentioned. Echo had me smiling at some points, frustrated at others (with the situation, not the writing or the story!), and flat out cheering at the end.

Any book that makes me think and feel the way Echo  did is a winner. I'm not sure if this is a stand-alone or if there will be others in this universe. I would definitely read another tale of this world - if Alicia Wright-Brewster decides to write it!

There are two giveaways below. Both are open internationally - good luck!
Giveaway One: One (1) ebook copy of Echo
Giveaway Two: (1st prize) A print or ebook + $25 bookstore e-gift card
(2nd prize) A print or ebook + $10 bookstore e-gift card

I was born into the world covered in blood, and that's exactly the way I left it.

Ever since, I have been damned to walk the boundary between life and death alone. Unwillingly turned and left to my nightmare, I have seen men commit countless horrors and committed many of my own.

My origins shall remain unknown, my true self hidden. I have been called by many names, but in this life I am known as the Witch Hunter. I have been asleep these past 150 years, until I was awoken by a haunting call.

Zachary Degaud was twenty three when he died. The problem was, he didn't stay that way.

Present day, he's just another vampire with another unremarkable story. That is, until he manages to provoke a two thousand year old witch named Katrin, who wants to make him pay in the most horrible way imagined.

Along with his brother Sam, newly made vampire Liz and their only witch ally, Gabby, his only chance for survival is to summon the ancient and unpredictable vampire known as the Witch Hunter.

Zac is just looking for a way out of his psychopathic witch problems, but instead will find himself falling head first into a blood feud that has stretched thousands of years.

Aya has been asleep for the past 150 years, until she was awoken by a haunting call. The witch she has been hunting for thousands of years, Katrin, has resurfaced and marked a young, annoyingly arrogant vampire by the name of Zachary Degaud. Unless she does something, he will die a slow and painful death. He has given her an opportunity to end the witch, but does she want to help him or leave him to his fate?

Zac will get under her skin like no one else has and she just might find herself making the ultimate sacrifice before he is gone forever.

They will both have to choose sides and look deep within themselves before the end. But, what Zac learns about himself, will surprise him most of all.

Book Blitz and Giveaway: The Only Exception by Magan Vernon

Ever since the cover reveal, I've REALLY been looking forward to this!

The Only Exception by Magan Vernon
Publication date: April 9th, 2013
by Beautifully Broken Books
Genre: NA Romance

Fiercely liberal Monica Remy prefers to blend in. Despite her tattoos, piercings, and outspoken personality, she transferred to Central to escape—before she finds out that her next door neighbor is the uber conservative governor son, Trey Chapman.

No matter how hard she tries to avoid Trey, he still finds a way to get under her skin. Monica can’t stand his crisp white shirts or his staunch views on women. But she can’t help counting every freckle on his face and wondering what it would feel like to have him stop talking politics and kiss her.

A class debate project forces the unlikely pair to work together, and the political lines are blurred in late-night make out sessions. But despite their fiery chemistry, Trey’s politics threatens to smother their relationship for good.

Excerpt:
"I'm not flirting, Mr. Chapman, I'm trying to work on an assignment." I put the pen down on the table and then pushed it off. "Whoopsies," I said with a small grin.

I slowly got up, circling to the other side of the chair. Then I dipped down low, with my butt raised in the air and picked up the pen, slowly inching back up and throwing my hair back. I shot a grin in Trey's direction. He was squirming in his seat. Some politician-in-training he was.

Our relationship had slowly been progressing, and when I was with him it became easier to push out the past. As long as we stayed away from his fraternity and the Kappa girls. Instead of seeing them we’d spend nights on the couch watching movies or kissing. He never pushed me to go any farther, but the more time I spent with Trey the more I fell for him.

"I guess I need to keep my hands steady," I said in a low voice. "Maybe I should just check some reference books out over there behind that big book case." I pointed over to the stack of reference books behind us and nodded in their direction.

Slowly, I walked over, swaying my body ever so slightly and hoped he would get the hint and follow. Once I was at the other side of the bookshelf, I pressed my back along the books and waited. It was only a few seconds before I heard Trey's slow, methodical steps approaching the shelf. I pulled the collar of his shirt as soon as I saw his feet, dragging him behind the shelf until he was flush against me.

"Do you suppose we could just absorb these reference books by osmosis, Miss Remy?" he said, putting his hands on either side of my waist.

"I just needed a little study break," I whispered, running a finger down the buttons of his shirt.

"But, Miss Remy, we have barely started," he said, teasing me and letting his lips hover just above mine.

"Mr. Chapman, I'm just trying to make the study process go a little smoother. This book case that keeps us hidden from the rest of the library should help," I said with a coy smile and unbuttoned the top button of his shirt.

"Miss Remy, I wouldn't want to start anything to affect your studies." He ran his hand along the low collar of my shirt so delicately slow it made my whole body tremble. "Especially when you’re wearing such a nice outfit."

I couldn't take the teasing anymore. I wrapped my arms around his neck and pressed against him, kissing him hard. He moved his hands to my lower back, running his fingers up and down my spine. Slowly, I moved my hands from his neck and down to his shirt, unbuttoning each button. I wasn't planning on having sex in the library, or sex at all for that matter, but I didn't want the button marks that I usually had all over me from his shirts.

Once I got the last button undone I pulled him back to me. The material of his undershirt was so thin I could feel every ripple of his abs on my stomach. He really was a fine specimen of a man. His lips trailed down my neck and to my collarbone. I moaned softly when he nibbled at the sensitive skin above my chest.

He pulled his lips back up to my ear and whispered, "This is a library, Miss Remy."

I bit my lip. "Sorry, Mr. Chapman, it won't happen again."

He nipped at my ear lobe and then licked the same spot. "But I love it when it does."

I gasped and then buried my face in his, trying to keep quiet but it was hard when my entire body was aching for him. It had been too long since I'd been with anyone. I hadn't wanted to, but with Trey, it was all I wanted. He was all I wanted. I hadn’t had any flashbacks since the party and I thought I would possibly be ready to move on with my life.

"Trey Chapman, you make me crazy," I whispered.

"And you love it," he said placing a quick kiss where my neck met my shoulder and I squirmed, trying not to squeal.

"And I know how to make you crazy." I pulled his lips to mine, acting like I was going to kiss him and then nibbled at his bottom lip, slowly and tenderly.

His eyes rolled back into his head, and I could feel him harden beneath his pants. Two could play at the teasing game. I let go of his lip, placing a soft kiss where my teeth had been.

"You’re too good at that," he whispered, running his hands down my ribcage and landing at the bare skin where my shirt rode up slightly.

[Blog Tour] Review & Giveaway: Deadly Kisses by Kerri Cuevas

Aiden Grant has a killer kiss. Literally. And it’s not every reaper who gets to work with the Sixteenth President. Sure, Honest Abe likes to throw out history lessons with reaping assignments, but when you’re favored by the ancients, grim reaper life is pretty sweet for a newly dead seventeen-year-old.

Then things get messy.

Aiden is assigned to reap the soul of Bee, the only girl he has ever loved. When Aiden’s kiss of death fails, intertwining their souls, she is still very much alive and they are both in trouble. The ancients want Bee, who has special powers of her own, and they’ll do anything to get her.

Some rules are meant to be broken, even if that means Aiden must bargain with his own soul to save Bee. Who knew the afterlife could get so complicated?

Kerri Cuevas was born and raised in Rhode Island. She moved to New Hampshire with her husband, three kids, cats and a rabbit named Hercules in 2005. When she's not writing, she's chasing chickens on her small farm or searching for the ultimate mac-a-cheese recipe.

Kerri went to college for Early Childhood Education but now writes books for young adults full-time. Her storytelling stems from watching too many horror flicks as a teen, but she no longer needs to sleep with the lights on.

Where to find Kerri:

I looked at my assignment's personal information. The picture stared back at me. I hadn't seen her in two years, but she looked the same. My scythe fell to the wooden bottom of the gondola, and I dropped to my knees. "This can't be happening."
I gathered up courage because I had a job to do. It wasn't in me to quit.
"For the record, you complicated your own life by making me a target, but enlighten me with why I'm to blame."
"Death politics. It's worse than presidential debates."

I found the premise of Deadly Kisses  interesting. Aiden Grant is a seventeen-year-old Grim Reaper. When he died, he continued to hold on to his regrets, which caused him to become a Reaper. And he's fine with it - he doesn't want to ascend.

It's good to see that even Grim Reapers have embraced modern technology. Aiden receives all his assignments via text message, complete with a countdown app. Reapers have seven days to complete an assignment once received. Failure to reap a soul in the allotted time has a nasty consequence.

Aiden is all ready for his next assignment, right up to the point he finds out who he must reap - Bee, the only girl he's ever loved. Once he finds that out, he just wants to get it over with. His plan is simple: wait until she's asleep, kiss her, and reap her. Sadly, things don't quite go as planned.

Bee has a few tricks of her own. Instead of dying peacefully with Aiden's kiss, their souls become twisted together instead.  Yeah. Not good for Aiden at all, since the seven day timer is still counting down.

Ms. Cuevas has written a wonderful tale about life, love, death and devotion.  Aiden, Bee, and Bee's brother Jaleb are likeable characters that had me rooting for them all. Having Honest Abe as Aiden's boss is loads of fun. I would ascend just to get away from the history lessons. :)

There is a tour-wide giveaway, and two winners will receive a signed copy of Deadly Kisses along with a bookmark. See the Rafflecopter below & good luck!

There are seven rules of the faery kingdom that Halley Starr must never break:

1. No trespassing sacred faery territory
2. Don't ever say thank you

4. Never break a promise to a faery

But Halley is cursed. Yeah. No joke. She can barely survive Omak High with that shard of ice in her heart. How could she possibly be a proper godmother and stop Rumpelstiltskin from taking the heir of the faery kingdom? And let’s be honest, there is no way she’ll go with Goldilocks (some hot faery guy) who won’t bother telling Halley his name or that she looks like she’s talking to herself when he’s around. Not a chance.

And really, who can blame her?

If Halley wants her heart back again, she can’t worry about the rules…

Only $.99 for a limited time!

Excerpt:
The door opened in the kitchen and a green mist oozed into the room. Daphne coughed on it, but Hobs was right. It wasn’t after her. It sped after us. “How do we stop them?” I cried.

“Are you kidding? They’re immortal! They’re cursed never to die!”

How did you fight something that couldn’t die, whose very touch was death? I chanced a look behind us to see flaming red eyes stare at us through the dark mist filling the air. The grandfather clock began its first strike to nine. Hobs dragged us behind it just as we spied five not-quite women searching us out with jerky movements. At this close range, I could see they couldn’t stop crying. That’s why their eyes were so red. If they were so sad about taking us, then they should go back to where they came from.

Their maws gaped open at an unnatural angle, and they chanted through it—their tongues slithering around their teeth. I couldn’t make the words out, but I could definitely hear them. It sounded like a death rattle. They ducked around the living room furniture, their bodies cutting in and out of the air, howling as they went.

“Get as much distance between us as possible,” Hobs shouted. One of them reached out for me. I shrieked, feeling the cold emanating from the gray, decaying finger. Before it could get to me, Hobs knocked a candlestick against it. The silver warped at the Banshee’s touch and bent to the ground like melted wax.

“Lost, lost, lost,” it sobbed. At such close proximity, I could hear the words, but they didn’t make sense.
“Our treasures, our queen, the child. All lost!”

Hobs picked up a picture of me from the mantle and got ready to smash the Banshee’s face with it. The creature stilled to stare at it. “You like this?” Hobs held up a staying hand at me to keep me back, then advanced on it, holding the picture up like a shield. “Does she look familiar?”

“Honey? What are you doing?” My lovely mother sat in front of the TV in her workout clothes, calmly eating popcorn. I scrambled further back before she could see me hiding behind her grandfather clock. I didn’t want to be thrown into a mental institution. Actually, I might prefer that than to this being real.

“Honey?” a Banshee breathed, mocking my mom’s voice from behind the couch where she sat. I saw the rusting crown resting over hair that once was beautiful; she was their leader. “Stay . . . stay still. Don’t be scared . . . honey.” Her voice deepened into a vicious growl.

“Thief. Thief. Thief.
The rule of Ratis defiled.
For a thief.”

The others chanted the words in a drumming rhythm as the Banshee queen floated over my mother’s head and past the fireplace. Her fingers scraped past the walls in dead silence—like they weren’t really there. The grandfather clock stopped ringing. The face on it cracked as she passed. Tears streamed down her mottled face. My heart lurched—the Banshee queen had killed my mom’s favorite clock. I was dead in more ways than one.

Stephanie Fowers loves bringing stories to life, and depending on her latest madcap ideas will do it through written word, song, and/ or film. She absolutely adores Bollywood and bonnet movies; i.e., BBC (which she supposes includes non-bonnet movies Sherlock and Dr. Who). Presently, she lives in Salt Lake where she's living the life of the starving artist. Stephanie plans to share more of her novels, films, and even a musical in the near future. May the adventures begin.

Book Blitz & Giveaway - Blood and Snow: The Complete Set by RaShelle Workman

I'm thrilled to be one of the bloggers bringing you this blitz for Blood and Snow: The Complete Set  by RaShelle Workman. All twelve stories in ONE BOOK!! Read on for all the information, along with an excerpt and a giveaway for a Kindle Fire!

Excerpt:
“I’ve had several seriously sexual day dreams about the new guy. Have you seen him?”

“Cin, I didn’t need to know that.” I jammed my math book into my backpack, and slammed the locker door. Cindy rested her petite frame against the locker next to mine. Her radiant baby blues twinkled. “No, I haven’t seen him. Apparently he’s . . . cute?” I asked.

She snorted. “Cute? No! He isn’t a kitten. He’s hot, sexier than hell, and has a voice that could melt chocolate.”

I had to laugh. Cindy had a way with words. It’d been like that since first grade. We met our first day of school. She’d traded me her Twinkie for my apple with the line, “I don’t think you should eat the apple, Snow White.” We’d been friends almost ten years.

She was different than me in every way, except our blue eyes. She was the epitome of a waif, while I towered over her at five foot eight. She had blond hair that hung long, and was always perfectly styled, mine was a boring dark brown, and came to just below my ears. Her clothes were the latest fashion, as were her nails, makeup, and jewelry, including the heart shaped stud in her belly button. Me, well let’s just say I didn’t own any makeup, and my clothes consisted of baggy jeans, and large old t-shirts, thanks to my seven best friends, and their hand-me-downs. My nails were stubby, and my ears weren’t even pierced. Honestly, I wondered if Cin found me embarrassing sometimes, but I gave her points for sticking around.

“Melt chocolate, huh? He sounds nice.”

“Snow!” She stomped her foot. “Nice isn’t even a proper word. It’s in the same arena as fine, good, okay, and pure.” She shuddered.

“What’s wrong with pure?” I asked, unable to help a laugh, and started toward the gym.

She jogged next to me. “Nothing if you’re Snow White.”
