My 2013 Challenges

There are so many great reading challenges out there for this year. Instead of bombarding you with several posts, I'm going to list most of them here. I'll be setting my goals low - that way, when I hit one level, I can move up another. For those challenges I'd like to track progress on, there will (eventually) be separate posts.  :)

No levels with this one - just read one book for each letter of the alphabet.

2013 Witches & Witchcraft Reading Challenge
Any full length book that includes a witch as a main character or major witchcraft elements counts.  My goal: Maiden: Read 6 - 10 Witchy Books.

For this one, the goal is to read at least twelve (12) legally obtained FREE e-books. While twelve is the minimum there is no maximum limit.  My goal:  Coupon Clipper: 12 Books.

Three categories - Series started before 2013;  Series started in 2013;  Series rereads
My goals:  Semi-Serious (1-6 books) in each category.

I'm a little ambitious with this one.  My goal:  Three Howls: Read 36 UF/PNR books in 2013.

Vampires, angels, demons, werewolves and fae. If you can’t pick a favourite, then that’s okay!  The goal of this one is to read at least three books featuring different species of immortals.

Between January 1 and December 31, 2013, read one book in each of the following categories:
  1. A book with up or down (or equivalent) in the title: Deep down True, The Girl Below, The Diva Digs up the Dirt
  2. A book with something you'd find in your kitchen in the title: Loose Lips Sink Ships, The Knife of Never Letting Go, Breadcrumbs
  3. A book with a party or celebration in the title: A Feast for Crows, A Wedding in Haiti, Cocktail Hour under the Tree of Forgetfulness
  4. A book with fire (or equivalent) in the title: Burning for Revenge, Fireworks over Toccoa, Catching Fire
  5. A book with an emotion in the title: Baltimore Blues, Say You're Sorry, Dreams of Joy
  6. A book with lost or found (or equivalent) in the title: The Book of Lost Fragrances, The World We Found, A Discovery of Witches
The book titles are just suggestions, you can read whatever book you want to fit the category.

There are two categories for this one.  For Number of Series Caught Up On, my goal is 6-10: Series Lover. For Number of Books Read my goal is 11-15: Book Connoisseur.

The goal: To read as many sequels as you can. You set your goal at whatever number works for you. My goal: 15 sequels.
The goal is to read at least one book featuring each of these paranormal creatures:
  • Vampires
  • Werewolves/Shifters
  • Fey
  • Angels/Nephilim
  • Mermaids
  • Dragons
  • Zombies
  • Demons
  • Witches/Wizards
  • Ghosts
  • Aliens
  • Other (ie: sirens, unicorns, centaurs, timetravel etc.)
And now for a few ambitious ones!

I've also signed up for the 2013 e-book Challenge and the 2013 TBR Pile Reading Challenge.  Looks like it'll be a busy year!
Have you signed up for any of these? Are there others I might have missed? Let me know in the comments!

  3. Akin to the 2013 TBR Pile Challenge is my personal favorite and most daunting that I am participating in which is the Mount TBR Challenge - link here. I'm going with Mount Olympus (Mars) - read 150+ books on my TBR pile. :) My other favorite that you didn't mention is the Genre Variety Reading Challenge - link here, which is exactly what it sounds like, I'm going with the max (30). Good luck with your challenges!
